Instructor Stuff: 3-Engine Go

One of the instructors at IP School taught me a great way to think about and chairfly 3-Engine Go Arounds. If you think about the fact that we're flying at speeds way above 1 engine out Vmca. Doing a go around for a checkride is no big deal. You'll find this and other gouge in the Instructor Gouge Section of the herk-gouge.com website. If you want to go to this technique now, click on the title above.

The Dash 2 - Systems Updated

A certain Chief introduced me to the 141 Dash 2. It's not a real AF publication. It's something that community came up with to aid in studying. It covered systems, EPs, ops limits, and instrument procedures. It was even a little bit of an in-flight guide.

I've taken a lot of gouge over the years and recomplied it. I have been working (slowly) on a C-130 version of the Dash 2. You can see the beta version of it at herk-gouge.com. I recently finished the first real rough draft of the Systems Section. For the most part it is correct, but the sections on the ESU (and electrics in general) need a good overhaul. Things that I'm concerned about I have highlighted in yellow. The page references should be close, but I think the last time I updated those pages were when change 3 came out. But if you're in a a pinch, this should be pretty good. When I get this finished and proofread, I'll post the final version.

The Herk Forum

I've stole the gouge on herk-gouge.com from other pilots, engineers, navigators, and loadmasters. I've either retyped photo copies of pages from their blue brains, or reformatted digital copies they've sent me. So for the most part it's pretty good. I'm not smart enough to come up with this all on my own. That's why there's a HERK FORUM.

This is a place for everyone to log on and add their gouge to the website. Some of the gouge we carry are just little bits and pieces knowledge that don't quite make it into a study guide or plastic brains. The Forum is your chance to add that piece of knowledge to the community.

On the other hand, you don't have to have something to offer to visit the Forum. You can stop by just to look, or stop to ask questions. Hopefully other visitors will have the answer for you. If not, I'll try to track one down for you. Hope to see you on the Forum.

We've Moved! Microsoft has offered me a beta test of their new Office Live. Since it came with a free domain name, I've moved the herk gouge website there. The website is simply...
